School Music

Music is at the heart of our school's creative and educational experience. At St Bernard's, we are committed to providing a rich and diverse musical education that inspires and nurtures our pupils' talents and passion for music, as well as enhancing the life of the school.

Our instrumental tuition programme offers pupils the opportunity to learn a wide range of instruments during the school day. We provide specialised instruction in string instruments, including the violin, viola, and cello. Pupils can also explore brass instruments such as the trumpet, cornet, and trombone, as well as woodwind instruments such as the flute and clarinet. In addition to these classical instruments, we are proud to offer tuition in Irish Traditional Music, introducing pupils to the unique style of the genre. These lessons are delivered by experienced music teachers who offer both individual and small group tuition, ensuring that each child can develop their musical skills at a pace that suits them.

Our choir brings together pupils who love to sing, performing at events throughout the academic year at venues such as St. George’s Market, Forestside Shopping Centre and Braevalley Nursing Home. The School Orchestra is comprised of talented and dedicated musicians from Key Stage 2, who rehearse regularly and showcase their musical talents at various school events throughout the year, including the Christmas Carol Service, school assemblies and the School Open Day.

Participation in our music ensembles offers so much more than just musical education. It helps pupils develop crucial life skills such as teamwork, discipline, and self-confidence. Whether a child is a beginner picking up an instrument for the first time or a more experienced musician, we provide a supportive and encouraging environment for musical exploration and growth.

We warmly invite parents and pupils to learn more about our music programme. Music is not simply about playing notes; it is a journey of creativity, expression, and joy. At St Bernard's, we believe every child has the potential to discover and develop their musical talents.
